Candy Cane Crafters: Wooden Tray Silhouette and Succulent Garden

 

Wooden Tray Silhouette

Supplies and Cost:

Dollar Tree:

1.00 Scissors

 .69 Black Poster Board

1.00 6 ½ “ by 4 ½” Wood Tray (craft section)

1.00 Glue Dots

1.00 Paint Brush

1.00 Miniature figurine (optional)

1.00 Cookie cutter or stencil

 

Walmart:

1.00 Acrylic paint (2 @ .50 each – $ amount depends on how many colors will be painted on the tray)

 

Dollar General:

1.00 Fabric Bandana

 

Instructions:

Paint all four interior sides, exterior sides and exterior back of tray.  Let dry.

Cut poster board to fit bottom of tray (4.5 inches x 6 3/8 inches).

Cut fabric to 4” x 5”.

Center cookie cutter or stencil on poster board and trace.

Cut out image left by cookie cutter or stencil.

Press 4 glue dots onto the back of the poster board spaced so that fabric, when pressed down, will have one glue dot

at each corner of fabric.

Put the side of the fabric that you want to show face down on the poster board making sure to pull fabric taut. 

Press down on the glue dots.

Put 8 glue dots on the back of the poster board (One in each corner, one centered at top, one centered at bottom,

one centered on the left side, one right side center).

Put the back of the poster board onto the bottom of the tray and press down on each of the 8 glue dots.

If you would like to add one or two figurines to the bottom interior side of the tray, put a glue dot on the bottom of the figurine(s) and press down.

 

Succulent Garden

Supplies and Cost:

Lowes:

$3.68 three succulents ($1.23 per succulent)

 

Walmart:

$2.50 5 inch ceramic planter

 

Lowes:

$4.98 8 quart Miracle-Gro Cactus, Palm & Citrus Soil (8 quart bag fills four pots)

$1.00 Stones

 

Instructions:

Fill pot with cactus soil leaving one inch at the top of the pot.

Take succulent out of the store container and knock off the dirt so that you are left with the root.

With your finger, dig a hole in the soil that is one inch deep.

Plant the succulent.

Decorate with stones.
